Visiting the manufactory

Alway worth the trip

You are cordially invited to visit our manufactory
Discover the watch collection in our showroom and try on your favourites while sipping an Espresso in the relaxed atmosphere of the manufactory. If you make an appointment beforehand I will personally show you around. I am looking forward to meeting you.

The HENTSCHEL HAMBURG watch manufactory is a free and independent family business. We don´t consider ourselfs a “watch brand” but a handicraft business with a close contact to its customers. This is why we have created the “transparent manufactory” so that you can get a good impression of the microcosmos of fine Hamburg chronometrics.

At the manufactory

BeratungIf you come to our Hamburg manufactory to choose your personal HENTSCEL watch you will quickly realize that there is no better place for this.

I will greet you personally in the showroom of our “transparent manufactory”. Like in the times of Alexander von Humboldt our watches are built individually by hand and on order.

Surrounded by historical watchmaker tools you can observe our watchmakers as they fabricate tiny wheels, levers and springs. You will feel instantly the authenricity of our passion, of the genuine watchmaking handcraft that we live here.

Configure your own HENTSCHEL watch

Next to the workshop on the first floor, only separated by a large window pane, you will find our showroom. With the help of the shown watches, straps, dial- and hand-samples or manufactory movements you can configure your personal watch. Enjoy the competent advice and the rare possibility to make your choice directly were your watch is made. On the basis of a “dummy” watch which is built before your very eyes you can try on your favourite on the spot.

A tour around the manufactory

BeratungAs our guest you have the privilege to witness some of the most interesting steps of the making of one of our handbuilt watches. For instance the fascinating moment when the balance is inserted into a movement  and starts oscillating  instantly as if by magic. This shows in an impressive way the century old fascination of watchmaking. It is this moment of precision, where the thousandth of a milimeter counts, towards which we are working on every movement up to 100 hours with the utmost diligence. This takes about 30 days from the start to completion.

In our manufactory we still work the way it was usual in the times of the great explorers. 200 years ago it were their chronometers that were built In the Haseatic city of Hamburg in this manner. Impressed by the particular spirit of Hanseatic chronometrics tradition you can look forward to the point of culmination – your own personal HENTSCHEL watch.

Besides this Hamburg offers several more attractive possibilities for your visit. There is not only the historic city center or the harbour with its famous places like the Landungsbrücken (the piers) and the Hafen City (Hamburg Docklands), but the lake Alster, the Jungfernstieg shopping promenade, the Neuer Wall mall, the Miniatur Wunderland (biggest model railway of the world)  or the musicals and concert halls.

You might want to consider some of these options for your Hamburg visit. We would be happy to assist you with accomodation or your evening programme for your stay.
